Community Action is always there to assist in any way we
can, free!
Contact with other groups can be helpful, they may have
been there, done that and have knowledge and experience that is
very relevant.
Don’t try and do it all yourselves get as many volunteers as possible even if they only have an hour here or there to give its useful.
Stage 1- Getting People Interested
Open Meeting or Event to persuade volunteers to come
forward

Lots of publicity explaining what its all about and highlighting what can be achieved
Stage 2- Setting up the Steering Group
Enough people to form a steering group which is normally 6
– 8 people and should contain maximum of 2 Parish
Councillors.

Get Constitution agreed
Put in application to Quartet, via Community Action, for funding.

Let everyone know what you are doing contact

Stage 3- Consulting the Community to establish issues and
topics
Stage Open event or drop in day using consultation devices to get people to give their ideas and opinions.
Can be done in a number of ways, different methods for
different Areas i.e. Transport, Housing, Facilities
ect
May be worth while getting other agencies
along.
Contact all local groups and canvas their
opinions
Contact difficult to reach groups
Don’t forget people such as farmers and
businesses
Don’t forget Young People and the
Elderly
Hold social event that also doubles as a consultation
event
Contact business community, maybe via a special meeting
for them
Piggy back other events going on in the community

Stage 4 - Questionnaire
Once you feel you have identified all the topics of
concern to your community design a questionnaire to cover
these
Distribute to all households either one per household or
one per adult (but this can be achieved on just one
questionnaire.

There is a variety of software available to assist with this that can also help in analysing the results.
Stage 5- Analysing all the information

Stage 6- Drafting the Plan and Action Plan
Normally 2 parts
Description of the community as it is now and of the
process undertaken to complete plan
Action Plan to implement actions community would like to see happen over the next 5 to 10 years identifying partners that could assist in completing these.
Feedback a draft to

The Parish Council
Other interested parties
Stage 7 – Implementing the Actions
Once the plan has been reviewed and agreed a final version
can be published
This is adopted by the Parish Council
Sent to all interested partners
