Frampton Cotterell War Memorial
The memorial is visible from Church Road at southwest corner of St Peter's
churchyard at Frampton Cotterell in South Glos. U.K. The 14ft high memorial is a
cross of Portland stone engraved on west side with 3 symbols - dove, tree and
whale, representing air, land & sea. The cross surmounts the square plinth
having inscriptions on its west and south faces.

The inscription on west face of the plinth : --

Corporal James Charles Rogers (9784) served in 1st Bn. Gloucestershire Regt. and was killed in action near Ypres, 29th October 1914 aged 21yrs. He is commemorated on the YPRES (MENIN GATE) MEMORIAL, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium, panels 23/ 34. - son of Charles & Annie Rogers, Belcher's Barton, (Little London) Frampton Cotterell, Glos.
Private Charles Reveley (10317) served in 2nd Bn. South Wales Borderers and was killed during the Gallipoli campaign, 26th April 1915. He is commemorated on the HELLES MEMORIAL, panels 80/84, at tip of Gallipoli peninsula, Turkey. - son of Alice Reveley, Winterbourne, Glos.
Lance Corporal Victor Albert Ernest Warwick (2400) served in 3rd Bn. Northumberland Fusiliers, repatriated from France to U.K. and died 5th May 1916 aged 33yrs. He is buried in SUNDERLAND (BISHOPWEARMOUTH) CEMETERY, Durham, U.K. - son of William & Rose Warwick of Bromley, and husband of Mabel Warwick, Frampton Cotterell, Glos. ref: grave 65W.
Private Leonard George Holder (14544) served in 7th Bn. Somerset Light Infantry and was killed in action near Ypres, 13th June 1916 aged 20yrs. He is buried in VLAMERTINGHE MILITARY CEMETERY, III.B.1, Ypres, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. - son of Edwin & Elizabeth Holder, Frampton Cotterell, Glos. ref: grave 79N.
Sergeant Henry Joseph Stone (14850) served in 7th Bn. Bedfordshire Regt. and was killed during Battle of Cambrai, 3rd May 1917 aged 27yrs. He is commemorated on ARRAS MEMORIAL, Bay 5, in Faubourg-d'Amiens Cemetery, Arras, France. - son of Albert (blacksmith) & Georgiana Stone, Brockridge Hill, Church Road, Frampton Cotterell, Glos.
Private Cecil Garnet Stiff (460174) served in 44th Bn. Canadian Infantry (New Brunswick Regt.) was wounded in France at Battle of Vimy Ridge, repatriated to U.K. and died 6th May 1917 aged 31yrs. He is buried in St Peter's Churchyard, Frampton Cotterell, Glos. - son of William (carpenter at colliery) & Rebecca Stiff, Church Road. ref: grave 30N.
Sergeant Horace Roy Stiff (11195) served in 61st Bty. Royal Field Artillery, repatriated to U.K. and died 18th December 1917 aged 23yrs. He is buried in St Peter's Churchyard, Frampton Cotterell, Glos. - son of William (carpenter) & Rebecca Stiff, Church Road. ref: grave 38N.
Private Albert Hobbs (18894) served in 1st/5th Bn. Gloucestershire Regt. and was killed in action near Ypres, 16th August 1917 age 21yrs. He is buried in POELCAPELLE BRITISH CEMETERY, XIV, F.13. - son of Thomas & Clara Hobbs, Winterbourne, Glos.
Private Percy Ebsworth (16996) served in 8th Bn. Somerset Light Infantry and was killed in action during Battle for Roeux, 23rd April 1917. He is buried in BROWNS COPSE CEMETERY, I.E.39. Private Frederick Bracy No mention in Commonwealth records - but maybe - Sapper Stanley Bracey (185288) who served in G. Depot Coy. Royal Engineers and died 18th December 1918 aged 37yr. He is buried CHRIST CHURCH, DOWNEND. - son of William & Mary Bracey, Staple Hill.
Private Harold Millett (21340) served in 9th Bn. Army Cyclist Corps and was killed in action at Battle of Cateau, 19th October 1918 aged 22yrs. He is buried in HIGHLAND CEMETERY, XII.A.6. Le Cateau, Nord, France. - son of Albert & Elizabeth Millett, School Road, Frampton Cotterell, Glos.
Private George Abra (4073) served in 2nd/4th Bn. Gloucestershire Regt. Repatriated from France to U.K. died of wounds 8th November 1918 aged 19yrs. He is buried in Arnos Vale Cemetery, no.3,722 at Bristol, U.K. - son of George & Susanna Abra, Bristol Road, Frampton Cotterell, Glos.

served in H.M.S. Gloucester and died in action on 22nd May 1941. He is commemorated on the PLYMOUTH NAVAL MEMORIAL, Devon. - son of Albert & Beatrice Bressington, Weston-super-Mare.Driver Ronald George Richardson served in Royal Army Service Corps and
died 28th August 1944, aged 32yrs. He is buried in St Peter's churchyard,
Frampton Cotterell, Glos. He was husband of Mrs K.M. Richardson, Filton.
