Brockeridge School

Since Frampton Cotterell was a large village, it had a British School as well as a National School. Brockeridge was built in 1845 as a British School with funds provided by the British and Foreign Schools Society founded in 1808. It was built close to Zion Chapel where in 1815 the Sunday School teachers taught the bible also general subjects to 290 children and 10 adults, showing this need for schooling every day of the week. Anybody could attend for two-pence a week, but following the 1876 Education Act, the local Council assumed control and education was provided free. The British School provided elementary education to age 14yrs then the Education Act of 1945 reorganised schools, so it became Infants only, with pupils transferring to Highcroft Junior after Year 3.
